Signal Biodiversity economy policies drafted far more often than implemented

A biodiversity economy puts the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of nature at the centre of economic growth rather than treating it as a side constraint. Interest in the idea is widespread on paper. Nearly 60 countries have developed a biodiversity economy policy. Only 16, however, have put such a policy into practice, showing a large gap between planning and implementation. Momentum is expected to build in 2026 as the G20 and the Food and Agriculture Organization advance work on 10 bioeconomic standards.
