Summary
PRRI and the Meanings of Democracy Lab at Johns Hopkins University's SNF Agora Institute released a national survey on September 24, 2026 on Americans who reject or are skeptical of Christian nationalism. It finds 64% of Americans resist it, made up of 27% Rejecters and 37% Skeptics. Resistance is 82% among Democrats, 72% among independents and 40% among Republicans. By religious group it ranges from 71% for Hispanic Catholics and 30% for white evangelical Protestants; by state it runs from 80% in Massachusetts to 42% in Arkansas. The sample is 22,111 adults in all 50 states, surveyed from February 28 to December 8, 2025, with a margin of error of ±0.87 points. PRRI CEO Melissa Deckman said the fight is between those wanting democracy for all and those seeking to enshrine one faith's dominance.
