Trend AI data centres are becoming the fastest-emerging source of new electricity demand
Summary
Data centres have become the flagship technology factor that recent Korean Basic Plans handle outside the econometric baseline. The tenth plan stated that most Fourth Industrial Revolution effects sit inside the model outlook, but singled out data centres as likely to grow well above trend. Internationally, data centres are likewise recognised as the most rapidly rising new load, with AI identified as the main driver. How large this demand becomes depends not only on how many centres are built but also on server utilisation, chip generations and cooling efficiency. The trend thus combines a strong upward push with wide uncertainty about its eventual size.
