Signal Pakistan launches nationwide fuel relief subsidy scheme
Summary
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's fuel relief scheme began in Islamabad at midnight between September 14 and 15 2026, offering low-income vehicle owners a subsidy of 100 rupees per litre. From midnight between September 16 and 17 the program expands nationwide, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Motorcycle, rickshaw and Qingqi owners can claim up to 20 litres a month, while owners of cars up to 800cc can claim up to 30 litres a month. The Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet approved 75 billion rupees for the scheme. Sharif ordered that the SMS needed for registration be provided free of charge. An automated registration system was also launched to prevent fraudulent claims.
