Summary

The fifth early-warning indicator tracks Korean firms' global market shares in national strategic technologies, including high-bandwidth memory, system semiconductors, batteries and core AI software. It monitors both whether Korea keeps its existing strengths and whether it enters emerging strategic fields. The current reading shows Korea holding its lead in memory chips. By contrast, KDI judges that Korea is slipping in system semiconductors, AI and secondary batteries. The combination leads KDI to classify this indicator as neutral, the only one of the six not signalling gridlock or dependence.
