Issue Strengthening infertility support: costs, mental strain and regional access
Summary
Infertility support has expanded since 2006 under the Framework Act on Low Birth Rate in an Aging Society and the Mother and Child Health Act. Even so, the report finds that medical costs for related procedures remain high and support for the psychological distress experienced during treatment is lacking. Gaps in infrastructure between regions are deepening. The report proposes better access to infertility clinics, systematic management of designated treatment facilities and education to prevent infertility. Core tasks include easing the regional concentration of infertility clinics, managing infertility statistics systematically, providing prior education on pregnancy and childbirth, and setting support criteria from the standpoint of the right to health.
