Trend Migration and growing cultural diversity
Summary
The report observes that, with immigration accounting for nearly all population growth, the cultural diversity of Dutch society is increasing. The demographic institute NIDI expects roughly 42 per cent of the workforce to have a migration background around 2050, changing the make-up of both the labour market and society. The state commission on demography likewise records that the shifting population composition brings more cultural diversity. Over the longer term, the sources of labour migration may move to young countries with a large labour supply such as India, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. Because migration remains so important, the report concludes that diversity is becoming the standard condition rather than the exception in many parts of the Netherlands.
