Signal A Helsinki building designed so residents become friends

Summary

This signal is a community building in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki, completed in 2018, whose residents are friends with one another. Sitra cites a Finnish MTV news report from September 2018 about a visit to the building. The report describes shared rooms, including spaces for overnight guests and for people who like gardening. The building is designed so that neighbours form real social ties rather than merely living side by side. It shows housing being used deliberately to create community. Sitra lists it among signals behind an imagined future article on families and communities in 2046.
