Signal US bilateral trade deals carry investment pledges exceeding 5 trillion dollars
Summary
Investment pledges to the United States under bilateral trade agreements concluded by the Trump administration exceed 5 trillion dollars in total. They include 550 billion dollars from Japan, 600 billion dollars from the EU and about 1 trillion dollars from Saudi Arabia, along with pledges from Korea, Taiwan and Switzerland. Switzerland has urged its companies to deliver one third of their pledged amount by the end of 2026, so part of the investment could be carried out during the year. However, the timing, size and monitoring arrangements for these investments are not clearly defined. KIEP therefore sees lasting uncertainty over how much of the pledged investment will materialise and treats it as a trade-related swing factor in the US outlook.
