Issue Cognitive load theory as the design standard for immersive experience

Summary

Cognitive load theory explains how the brain handles information while learning and has long guided instructional design. It distinguishes intrinsic load, which reflects how hard the content is, from extraneous load, which depends on the quality of the design. A third element, germane load, is the effort needed to process information into lasting knowledge. The theory seeks a careful balance among the three so that demands on a learner's working memory stay manageable. Dubai Future Foundation proposes using it as a basis for designing, redesigning or evaluating immersive experiences so that user engagement and effectiveness are optimised.
