Trend Global South moving to flexible multipolar partnerships
Summary
The report sees the Global South, made up of countries in South America, Africa and Southeast Asia, moving toward flexible multipolar partnerships with wealthy partner countries such as China. In this way these countries gain more international influence. At the same time they are strengthening regional cooperation through organisations such as ASEAN in Asia and the African Union in Africa. The report judges that deepening relations with the Global South strategically is becoming economically more important for the EU because of the green and digital transitions and the defence industry. This movement fits the broader diagnosis of a world order fragmenting as cooperation gives way to competition.
