Trend Rising perceived insecurity after a long decline
Summary
The report finds that people in the Netherlands generally still feel relatively safe, yet the perception of insecurity is growing. Over the long term the sense of insecurity has fallen considerably, but it has edged up again in recent years. The rise is seen mainly among women and the LHBTIQA+ community, and other research cited by the report suggests that young adults in particular have lately felt less safe. Online crime and nuisance in specific areas have also increased, as has disturbance from people with confused behaviour and from homeless people. The report links this partly to limits in mental health care and to the situation of unemployed labour migrants.
