Issue Global South male health crises are structurally absent from mainstream frameworks
Summary
GWI's Men's Wellbeing Initiative acknowledges in its own overview that several compounding crises in the Global South sit largely outside mainstream men's health frameworks. It names opioid use tied to demanding work, sexual violence against men in armed conflict, and imprisonment acting as an amplifier of disease. The Initiative describes the field as gaining institutional momentum, with new national strategies and more specific regulation, while its connecting infrastructure stays weak. Against that progress, these crises affect large male populations that the field's agenda barely represents. The gap suggests that frameworks built around Western contexts leave out where many men actually face the greatest risk. The Initiative's later trends on substance use, violence and incarceration take up these omissions directly.
