Trend Rising forced displacement tied to conflict
Summary
According to the report, the number of people forced from their homes by war, violence and hunger has risen every year for a decade, driven mainly by protracted conflicts. Only a small share of those who flee end up travelling to Europe and the Netherlands. The report links trends in refugee numbers closely to trends in conflict. Refugee arrivals in the Netherlands likewise depend largely on why people fled, whether war, violence, oppression or other inhumane conditions in their country of origin. Countries of origin shift over time, yet Syrians remain the largest group, and the report says asylum migration rises and falls with these underlying causes.
