Issue Using Korea's national brand and leadership in technology, climate, culture and training to position itself in Eurasia
Summary
The report urges Korea to make active use of its national brand in northern Eurasia as a peace-oriented democracy with advanced technology and industrial development. It should consistently pursue a new Eurasia strategy over the short and long term that widely communicates Korea's attractiveness and goodwill. Given that the United States and the West are neither the sole superpower nor the only hub of cooperation and attraction in Eurasia, Korea's leading role and positioning are called an important policy task, and the stereotype that Russia and China run nearly everything in the region should be discarded. Through multilateralism and regional cooperation Korea should maintain and expand the standing of its brand in Eurasia and Northeast Asia and pursue a leadership initiative with partner countries to shape new global standards. The fields where Korean leadership can best be exercised are advanced technology, climate response, culture and human resource development such as education and training, which should be linked to Korea-led bilateral and multilateral programmes and a new northern ODA strategy.
