Signal Korea's new planning and budget ministry plans a Future Vision 2045
Summary
Korea's Ministry of Planning and Budget, launched in 2026, has made serving as a control tower for designing the future one of its main tasks. It has announced a plan to draw up a Future Vision 2045 that would set out the national picture for 2045. The ministry intends to prepare it through public-private cooperation so that the resulting national strategy can outlast changes of government. The previous comparable national exercise was Vision 2030, published in 2006. The author presents the move, together with rising foresight demand in statutory basic plans and national R&D planning, as evidence that strategic foresight is gaining weight in the policy process. New organizations for future issues and expanded mid- to long-term development strategy functions are cited in the same vein.
