Trend Five defining features of society a decade ahead, from digital life to normalised risk
Summary
Drawing on foresight work by domestic and foreign institutions, KISTEP characterises society beyond the next ten years through five features. The first is a digital world built on the online economy and the merging of virtual and physical spaces. The second is a changing social structure marked by ageing, the disappearance of small and mid-sized regional cities, urban concentration and faster smart-city growth. The third and fourth are environmental change with new resource frontiers such as the space economy and deep-sea resources, and a shifting world order with supply-chain diversification and continued US-China rivalry. The fifth is the normalisation of risk, spanning personal data leaks, power grid collapse, pandemics and terrorism.
